In Europe, more than 25 million people have already been infected with the virus since the start of the Corona pandemic. This was the result of a count by the AFP news agency on Friday from 52 countries based on information from authorities. In terms of deaths, Europe had surpassed 500,000 on Dec. 17, and the number now stands at 540,647.
In total, more than 1.74 million people worldwide have died so far in connection with the novel coronavirus. Worldwide, the number of infections is more than 79.3 million, and more than 50.1 million of the infected people are now considered cured.
British virus mutation also discovered in Japan
The coronavirus mutation that occurred in the United Kingdom has also been detected for the first time in Japan. The significantly more infectious form of the virus was discovered in five passengers who had arrived by plane from Great Britain, Health Minister Norihisa Tamura announced on Friday.
